COVID- 19 Information and Resources

On 9/22/2021, the Department of Health updated their emergency rule (64DER21-15) to include instruction on student quarantines.

Positive Test- If your child tests positive:

  • PLEASE CALL THE ST. JOHNS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (DOH) DIRECTLY AT (904) 506-6271 to report the positive result.
  • Call the District COVID Support Team at 904-547-8230 to report your child’s quarantine and absence.
  • Contact your child’s teacher and they will further instruct you in accessing education while quarantining.
  • ISOLATION Guidelines: Students who have received a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 should not attend school and isolate until:
    1. Ten days have passed since the onset of symptoms or positive test result, the student has had no fever for 24 hours and the student’s other symptoms are improving. OR
    2. The student received a negative diagnostic COVID-19 test and is asymptomatic. At home tests are not recognized by the DOH. OR
    3. The student receives written permission to return to school from a medical doctor, osteopathic physician, or advance registered nurse practitioner.

Close Contact/Exposure Defined You are a close contact of a COVID-19 positive individual if, from 48 hours before their symptoms began, the person with COVID-19:

  • Lived in your home or stayed overnight with you
  • Took care of you or you took care of them
  • Stayed within 6 feet of you for cumulative 15 minutes or longer in a 24-hour period
  • Exposed you to their body fluids or secretions (e.g., coughed or sneezed on you)

Close Contact/Exposure and Quarantine Timelines for school

    • Schools will continue to notify parents of exposures that may have occurred at school through the District School Messenger System giving more specific details about the quarantine process.
    • Asymptomatic Student Quarantine Guidelines: 2 options for parents
      1. Allow the student to attend school, school-sponsored activities, or be on school property, without restrictions or disparate treatment, so long as the student remains asymptomatic, OR
      2. Quarantine the student for a period of time not to exceed seven days from the date of last direct contact with an individual that is positive for COVID-19.
        • If you choose to keep your child home to quarantine, please call the District COVID Support Team at 904-547-8230 to report your child on quarantine. If you do not call this number, your child will be marked absent.
    • Symptomatic Student Quarantine Guidelines:
      1. Call the Department of Health and your child’s physician for further guidance
      2. Call the District COVID Support Team at 904-547-8230 to report your child on quarantine.
      3. Follow Isolation guidelines (under “Positive Test” above)

If you choose to keep your child home to quarantine, please call the District COVID Support Team at 904-547-8230 to report your child on quarantine. If you do not call this number, your child will be marked absent..

HEALTHY TOGETHER APP: The St. Johns County Department of Health is working to improve the community’s ability to communicate with the DOH when someone tests positive for COVID-19.  People are encouraged to use the Healthy Together app to identify and input information regarding their case. The information is linked with the Department of Health’s system. It may take up to 48 hours for the information to be processed.  Link to Healthy Together App for DOH .
